Nature is a precious gift given by God. The hills, the mountains, the rivers, the purest water, the purest air, all are a boon to life. We know that Mother Nature has given us all the things we need, i.e., food, clothing, and shelter. Our ancestors also completely depended on nature. They gave complete respect to nature. They take how much they need and what they need.

But as time passed, man discovered and invented many wonderful things. With every new invention, his respect for nature went on decreasing.

For the last one hundred or so years, the people of earth have wasted and misused the natural resources of the earth. Pollution has been increasing day by day. Forests are disappearing. Animals are becoming extinct. Global warming is a causing so many problems. Our planet is in great danger.

Every year we celebrate Earth Day. This is the only day when we take out of our busy lives to reflect what the earth is going through. We turn off the lights for an hour or so to commemorate this day. Why? Can't Earth Day be celebrated every day by everyone through our actions?

When I was a child, we would go to my village during my vacations. There was so much greenery there. Birds would chirp and the air was so fresh. My dad would tell me stories of how they would go to the nearby jungle with friends and have fun. He would share all his adventurous experiences.

Recently, when I visited my native place, I noticed that the greenery was less. The place was developing and many concrete buildings are coming up. If this is the case now, I wonder what it would be when my children come into this world.

In my school, we recently had a seminar about global warming. At the end of the seminar, the speaker asked the students how they would like to contribute to saving the environment.

I was surprised with the answers. Many of my students came up with so many brilliant ideas and suggestions to save the nature.

I would like to share some of the things I learnt :-

  • When we talk about saving nature, the first things we hear is that we need to plant more trees. Many people keep lecturing about how we should plant more trees but very few actually do it. There was one student who told me, that he plants trees every time he visits his native place. Whenever he is in the city, he makes sure to take care of the old and grown up trees. He waters them and takes care of them.

  • Some kids shares how they segregate waste at home into wet and dry waste. Wet waste is organic and dry is not. Segregation is an important step towards proper disposal of both categories of waste.

  • Some said they recycle things. They do not throw away unwanted used paper; instead, they use the other side for scratch paper and then recycle it. They repair broken things. They donate used clothes, furniture, toys, books, and magazines to charity. They reuse plastic containers.

  • Some said they make sure to save water every time they get a chance. They close the tap when brushing teeth and don’t use showers during the bath. They fill buckets instead and use that water to have a bath. They ask their parents to fix leaking taps and conserve water. Similarly, they save electricity by switching off electrical appliances when not in use.

  • Some said they either walk or use cycle while going somewhere far instead of asking their parents to drive them. Some say they even convinced their parents to use public transport vehicles instead of their own private vehicles.

We should teach our kids how important it is to save the nature. Our kids are our future and we need to teach them to use Ctrl + S on our planet. The Earth is our home and we need to protect it.

The Earth Is A Lonely Planet.
It Is Lonely Because Nobody Seems To
Understand What It Needs.
Today It Is In Danger.
It Is Trying To Talk To You.
It Wants You To Listen.
Its Wants You To Understand.
It Wants You To Act.
